“Being at Davis College is a dream come true!”

What does being part of the first Davis College class mean to you?
Being at Davis College is a dream come true! For several years I had been trying to upgrade my skills in business but I didn’t have the chance. I was lucky to have a mentor who noticed that I had potential and that I needed to find somewhere to study and nurture my skills. I applied to join Davis College because I believed that it was a place that would push me to reach my fullest potential and be the best version of myself.
Describe your experience of the online orientation and bridge weeks?
My experience during orientation and bridge was different from what I expected. When I applied, I had envisioned going to campus but due to the pandemic we were told that everything would be online. It was my first time studying online and, to be quite honest, it was challenging. However, I am so grateful that our instructors took the time to teach us how everything would be done and gradually we all felt comfortable with the system. It was such a great experience and I can proudly call myself a pro in online learning now.
How did Davis College fostered a sense of community during your first few weeks?
Davis College fostered a strong sense of community in me from day one. I was so impressed by the fact that we got consistent updates, follow-ups to our enquiries, and support every time we needed it. I have never been handled with such care before, especially by a group of people I have never met. With every communication that was sent to us, it made me feel like I am exactly where I belong. For example, there was one incident when I couldn’t access my school work on my computer, but the support and prompt feedback I received from my colleagues and the tech team was beyond what I expected. That assured me that I wasn’t alone figuring things out as I got used to studying online.
What motivated you to study at Davis College?
As a start-up owner, it is very crucial for me to have knowledge and skills in business management and entrepreneurship. For me to advance in my career, I needed to have a solid foundation and I knew that Davis College was the place for me to gain these skills. The curriculum prepares students to enter a competitive market and having tangible experience is a great way for me to achieve my goal, which is sustaining my business and having a better understanding of the market framework.
What are your goals after you graduate?
My biggest dream is to graduate from Davis College and relaunch my business. I am into creative art and I’d like to gain skills in business expansion and ultimately create jobs for youth in East Africa who are interested in visual arts. I plan on launching a bigger project with a clear vision and mission. I can’t wait for that time!
