Akilah is one of 15 finalists for this year’s WISE Awards!

Out of almost 500 submissions from around the world!

Each year, the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Awards recognize and promote innovative projects from across the world that are addressing global educational challenges. We’re thrilled to share that Akilah is one of this year’s fifteen finalists!

This year’s WISE finalists were selected from a pool of 482 submissions evaluated according to strict criteria by an expert panel of judges. They must be established, innovative educational projects that have already demonstrated a transformative impact on individuals, communities, and society of their context. They also need to be financially stable, have a clear development plan, and be scalable and replicable.

For the past ten years, Akilah has educated Africa’s female leaders to solve the world’s most pressing challenges through a lens of sustainability and opportunity.

To do this, we’ve partnered with employers to develop an innovative education model that brings together blended learning and competency-based education to deliver an educational experience that is impactful and market-relevant.

The impact of this model is evident in Akilah’s career placement rate of 88%, and the superior earning power of our graduates — who on average earn 12x the national median income.

In addition to Akilah, the other finalists are Micro:bit Educational Foundation (UK), United World Schools: Teaching the Unreached (UK), Dost Education (India), Family Business for Education (UK), MyMachine (Belgium), Personal Safety Education Program (India), Stawisha Leadership Institute (Kenya), OpenClassrooms (France), ReBootKamp (Jordan), Peer Coaching Plan (China), Moringa School (Kenya), Institut de l’Engagement (France), Programa Criança Feliz (Brazil), and CareerAware (India).

The WISE Awards winning projects will be announced in July 2019 and celebrated at the World Innovation Summit for Education, November 19–21 2019, in Doha, Qatar.
