Cabinet elections are underway for Akilah’s Student Guild.

After a year of service, the 2017 Student Guild Cabinet is ready to pass the torch to the next round of student leaders on campus.

In their efforts to win their fellow students’ votes, the Guild candidates presented their manifestos and visions for what they could achieve as ministers of education, finance, communication, justice, sport — as well as Guild Speaker and President.

Nicole Uwuziranenge campaigns for a seat as the Minister of Information and Communication.

Together, the new Guild Cabinet will oversee student affairs, serve as the link between students and staff, and advocate for students on and off campus.

“I want to be your microphone and make sure your opinions and concerns are heard,” said Nicole Uwuziranenge to a cheering crowd as she campaigned for a seat as the Minister of Information and Communication.

Djasmina Mukeshimana, another candidate for the Student Guild Cabinet, pledged to always speak on behalf of Akilah and the student body: “Do people outside know Akilah, what we study and what big things we are busy planning for our country? We’re an institution of powerful ideas, and I want the world to know that.”

Each Cabinet seat has two contestants, except for Guild President, which has attracted three candidates.

The student body will hit the polls next week, and the new Cabinet will be sworn in on June 22.

Stay tuned for the results!
