5 Tips to Ace Your Admissions Interview at Akilah
Dress to impress for your Akilah admissions interview.
Have you applied to the Akilah Institute? Are you wondering what the next steps will be?
After submitting your application and meeting the requirements, you will be invited to take an English test.
If you pass the English test, we will call you for an individual interview at Akilah. The interview is your chance to show us why you would be a good fit at Akilah — so come prepared to do your very best!
Akilah’s Deputy Director of Recruitment and Admissions, Mike Mulindwa Ssempa, and Admissions Officer Jean Claude Uwihoreye share their five best tips for preparing for your Akilah admissions interview.
Give a Strong Pitch
Be prepared to give a presentation about yourself. We want you to confidently show us who you are and why you are a good fit for Akilah. Tell us who you are and why you want to study at Akilah. Give us specific examples of when you demonstrated leadership skills or stood out in other ways. Prepare a presentation at home and practice it a few times so you can talk confidently in English and give us the best possible impression of youself.
2. Do Your Research
You will be interviewing for a specific academic program at Akilah. When you come for the interview, we expect you to be familiar with the program you have applied for. Show us that you understand the key components in the program and how they are relevant to you. Tell us about what kind of career you see yourself in after graduating and how studying at Akilah will get you there.
3. Prepare for Follow-up Questions
Don’t be surprised when we ask you follow-up questions. If the question is challenging, take a few seconds to think about a good reply — there is no rush. Think about your own strengths and weaknesses when you prepare for your interview. What are you really good at? And where could you use more support? This is a great way for us to learn about who you are and how you respond to challenging situations.
4. Think About Your Appearance
Make a great first impression! Show us that you are professional and serious by dressing appropriately — as if you were going to a job interview. When you feel good, smart, and prepared, you immediately feel more comfortable.
5.Be Yourself
Try not to feel shy. We want to know who you are, so the more open you are, the better. Make eye contact, smile, and show interest. Take your time to respond to our questions, and don’t get too nervous. The more comfortable you feel, the better you will perform in the interview!
Best of luck with your application!
