Announcing Akilah Institute’s Partnership with Laura Waters Hinson & Mama Rwanda
We are excited to announce the official partnership between the Akilah Institute and filmmaker Laura Waters Hinson to celebrate the release of her film, Mama Rwanda.
Mama Rwanda is a 2016 documentary by award-winning filmmaker Laura Waters Hinson that examines a new generation of women in post-genocide Rwanda, whose passion for entrepreneurship is transforming their nation into one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The documentary follows two mothers, Drocella, a village wife, and Christine, a city widow, as they trade subsistence living for a life in business, and highlights the role of education and access to capital in empowering women to overcome poverty.
“Mama Rwanda is a must see for anyone who hopes to help the people of Rwanda continue their amazing progress into tomorrow’s high tech world. Through their indomitable spirit, the women of Rwanda have created an economic success story out of the ashes of genocide.”
Joann Weiner, Washington Post
Mama Rwanda and the Akilah Institute are planning screenings of the film in New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, and Tampa this fall.
