The latest news from Rwanda

This week, 100 ambitious high school students from all over Africa are in Rwanda to join the Yale Young African Scholars Program. The program connects high-potential students with opportunities to study in the US. 25 of this year’s 100 selected students are from Rwanda! Find out how you can participate next year.

The Olympic Games in Rio kicked off this week, with athletes from all over the world coming together to compete. Rwanda is represented by seven talented athletes, who will be competing in events including cycling and swimming. Stay tuned to see how many medals the athletes bring home to Rwanda!

The first week of August was all about celebrating Rwandan culture. The Pan African Dance Festival (FESPAD) || Festival Panafricain de Danse and the National Harvest Ceremony, Umuganura, joined forces to celebrate traditional culture in all provinces of Rwanda. The latest news from Akilah’s campus

60 girls from all over Rwanda came together in Kibuye for this year’s TechKobwa camp, encouraging young girls to experiment, innovate and support their communities through technology. 5 of Akilah’s Information Systems students joined the camp to be mentors and role models for the girls, and Akilah’s recruitment department joined the camps and a gave a growth-mindset training. Akilah is proud to partner with TechKobwa, organized by Peace Corps and their partners, Michigan State University, Ministry of Youth & ICT and IBM. Check out our coverage of the exciting week.

Akilah recently hosted Claire Akamanzi, the former CEO of Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and now the Head of Strategy and Policy Unit at the President’s office. Claire is a long-time supporter of Akilah and came to campus to learn about our new academic model. Thank you for visiting us, Claire!
